What are Socialists For?

It suffices to say that nature abhors a vacuum, to explain the actions of NDP MP Irene Mathyssen. Is there any locus more vacuous than that place which explains their reason for being? Is there a location more empty than that place in their minds which edifies the direction and purpose of their next political deed? Can a void be more empty than the one which catalogues the worth of NDP brand socialists to the betterment of this country? What is a socialist for, anyway?

This last is not just a rhetorical question, but a line in the sand beyond which no “dipper” should cross without an accounting of what he has given in return to the taxpayer. Why must Canadians pay for the token representation of the party dedicated to reinventing the wheel? The answers to the questions they ask, have long since, been hammered home. Socialism is an abject test failure whose colossal failings have all been demonstrated clearly in the laboratory of history. Its wrong-headed grasp on reality has been the demise of countless millions, and condemned countless millions more to lives of poverty and misery. Wherever Canadians have had the misfortune to be governed by NDP administrations (remember Bob Rae) the wreckage of their attempt has been a stark reminder that this square wheel just won’t work.

So Mathyssen’s pathetic porn-viewing accusation of MP James Moore was not just an exhibition of bad judgement, but the characteristic action of a caucus with no direction. What else does the NDP do except to busy-body Canadians on contemporary correctness? Or supply moral support for the actions of the world’s despots. Or vilify the actions of our most reliable ally. Or to constantly target the motives and belongings of Canada’s entrepreneurs. Or to agitate for the further confiscation of Canadians’ income. Or to advocate for government owned and run services, from birth to grave - precisely where they have clearly demonstrated their incompetence.

Who needs any of this and why is anyone voting for it? The sad answer, unfortunately, says a lot about voters. It says that a large constituency are led by the nose into prejudicial positions on business and on our American neighbours. That we are easily conned by social “Trojan horses” into surrendering an ever larger “fair share” of what belongs to us. That we foolishly believe, in the face of all contrary evidence, that the state can choose more wisely than we can.

So the NDP remain to represent those who know no better. The silver lining is that even though they believe in what they do, against all common sense, they compete with another party, the Liberals, who believe in nothing but do whatever pays dividends. Which of the two is more dangerous is a topic for another discussion, but we can be thankful that these two share the same pool of support.

In the meantime, the rest of us have to pay the salaries of those like Mathyssen, who flounder in search of a reason for being.
