Wagering Lives for Political Gain
If the Liberals succeed in impaling the government of the day over its treatment of Taliban prisoners, it must, in the spirit of fairness indict itself for rupturing the spleens of defenseless terrorists everywhere. Surely the convulsions of spontaneous laughter being generated amongst the audience of the world’s jihadist cutthroats, has to be doing some permanent damage. On the other hand there is some salutary merit to taking a time-out from the droll daily humdrum of slitting infidel throats in front of cameras to display one’s godliness to the world; or marring the faces of female Afghan students with acid to teach them a real lesson about education; or of turning children into human bombs, the better to infiltrate crowded infidels and send them to their just reward.
Perhaps this is a Liberal way of winning over the hearts and minds of these true believers. Yes, of course! Impress them with the virtuous blindness of democracy’s justice by parading soldiers before a prisoner-treatment inquisition. Show them how thankful we are to those who form the first line that defends our fat asses. Impale the government that has the courage to call a terrorist what he really is, and water down that courage so we don’t offend the world’s human vermin. Better yet, let’s imitate the
The conventions by which we govern ourselves, when in conflict, have often been used against us by those with less scruples. It is morally reassuring to the non-combatants at home, that we soldier on in spite of the advantage we give away. To those on the front lines, it means life and death when the other side plays by its own rules. (As terrorists do when they hide, with no military identification, in the midst of innocent people, or behind sacrificial women and children.) When the conventions we believe in are so brazenly ignored, we should not owe the other side the respect that liberal dreamers amongst us wish to cede to them. It costs innocent lives. And when Liberal politicians amongst us undermine the life and death efforts made by our front line, by defending those conventions, they wager those lives for political gain.

Of course the Liberals also forget that they were the ones that put us in Kandahar in November of 2005, under-equipped and ill prepared. They were the ones that signed the prisoner transfer agreement that operated for over a year until the Conservatives took over in January of 2006. Selective memory is great when you’re seeking headlines. Of course, our compliant Canadian media have failed to ask any questions about what was going on for all of 2005 before the Conservatives took power.
